Praj Secures Exclusive Rights for Gevo’s Bio-Isobutanol
Praj Industries has entered into an exclusive Development & Commercialization Agreement with Gevo Inc. to deploy and commercialize Bio-Isobutanol (Bio-IBA) technology in India, marking a strategic expansion beyond traditional ethanol blending.
Key Highlights:
Exclusive Rights & First-of-its-Kind Plant: Praj has secured exclusive deployment rights for Gevo’s proprietary Bio-IBA technology, which includes establishing India’s first commercial demonstration plant for a leading Oil Marketing Company (OMC).
Strong Q1 FY27 Momentum: Operational revenue grew ~11.8% YoY to ₹715.8 crore, while Q1 order intake surged ~25.8% YoY to ₹1,000 crore. The total order backlog reached a record ₹4,590 crore.
Diversification Win: Subsidiary Praj GenX also signed a framework supply agreement for hyperscale data centers with a minimum committed value of USD 52 million.
Strategic Rationale:
Targeting the Diesel Economy: The primary commercial focus is on diesel blending, unlocking a significantly larger domestic volume segment compared to the increasingly saturated petrol-blending market.
De-risking Long-Term Growth: This partnership elevates Praj from a 1G ethanol solutions provider to a holistic bio-mobility technology leader, insulating its growth trajectory from cyclical sugarcane policy restrictions and feedstock volatility.
Market Outlook:
The commercialization of Bio-IBA is expected to catalyze a new wave of capital expenditure from state-owned and private OMCs aiming to lower carbon intensity. By holding exclusive deployment rights, Praj is uniquely positioned to capture high-margin EPC contracts as national biofuel blending protocols expand, ensuring robust, long-term revenue visibility.
