SWREL Faces Credit Downgrade as Infomerics Lowers Ratings on ₹5,904 Crore in Facilities
Sterling & Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has been hit by a credit rating downgrade from Infomerics Valuation and Rating, which revised down its ratings on ₹5,903.99 crore of bank facilities. Long-term ratings were lowered to IVR BBB/Stable from BBB+, and short-term ratings to IVR A2 from A3+, citing heightened financial risks.
The downgrade affects key debt facilities amid a notable rise in current liabilities—up 32.6% to ₹4,038.9 crore—outpacing asset growth. Although total assets and equity rose 30.9% and 4.1% respectively, the deteriorating liquidity profile likely contributed to the decision.
This move could lead to higher borrowing costs, reduced investor confidence, and tighter access to credit, posing challenges for debt refinancing and future funding.
As India’s renewable sector grows, SWREL must focus on strengthening its balance sheet and cash flow discipline to restore creditworthiness. Investors will watch upcoming financials and strategic actions closely.
