Transrail Lighting secures ₹574 crore T&D order
Transrail Lighting secured a ₹574 crore domestic power transmission order and holds an L1 pipeline of ₹694 crore. This reinforces its ₹1,609 crore year-to-date order book amid a 70% expansion in conductor capacity.
The order focuses on reconductoring using in-house carbon-core HTLS conductors, following a September capacity expansion that boosted conductor output to 40,800 Km/annum and tower capacity to 172,400 MTPA. This matters because it locks in high-margin execution by internally sourcing up to 70% of the EPC value, directly capitalizing on India's renewable grid integration push. I am watching the Q3 FY27 order conversion for the L1 pipeline and operating margin expansion by December 2026 as the new capacity ramps up.
The market prices Transrail as a standard T&D EPC contractor, expecting industry-average execution margins. What the consensus misses is the structural margin shield provided by its backward integration. Most EPC players are vulnerable to third-party HTLS conductor supply bottlenecks and price volatility. By manufacturing its own carbon-core conductors, Transrail bypasses this risk and captures the supplier's margin alongside the EPC margin. The consensus treats this as a pure-play contractor, ignoring the double-margin capture that will mechanically drive a higher return on capital employed (ROCE) as the new 40,800 Km capacity scales.
Accumulate for integrated margin expansion.
