Tata Capital Ltd Fundamental Research Outlook

Tata Capital is maintaining its growth guidance of 23–25%, driven by strong demand across Retail and SME segments. By Q3FY27, these segments are expected to contribute 85–87% of the portfolio, reducing wholesale exposure to 13–15%. Asset quality remains stable, with credit costs projected below 1%. However, sustained high crude oil prices could pose risks, particularly for SME borrowers. Net interest margins (NIM) face pressure from rising operating costs and elevated borrowing expenses. Despite lower deposit rates, funding costs remain high. Management expects higher-yielding products to support margin recovery in H2 FY27, with home loans planned for launch next quarter. Demand for two-wheeler and passenger vehicle financing remains positive, while commercial vehicle financing is expected to recover from Q3. Proposed RBI regulations on revolving credit could affect NBFC offerings. Around 8–9% of Tata Capital’s loan book falls under flexi or revolving categories, with less than 5% comprising true revolving credit lines. Management is actively engaging with the RBI on these proposals. Although FCNR inflows have improved liquidity, recent increases in short-term funding costs may lead to higher lending rates. Tata Capital continues to prioritise organic growth, targeting a cost-to-income ratio of 33–34%, RoA of 2.5–2.7% and RoE of 17–18%. Analysts remain optimistic, with an average one-year target price of approximately ₹414 against the BSE closing price of ₹343.55. While growth prospects remain encouraging, investors should monitor margin pressures, funding costs and crude oil volatility.
