Laurus Labs profit jumps 126% as CDMO sales surge

LAURUSLABS
Laurus Labs Limited (LAURUSLABS) reported a 126% year on year jump in Q2 FY27 net profit to ₹441 crore. Revenue grew 33% to ₹2,206 crore. The bigger story is where that growth is coming from. The company’s contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) business generated ₹904 crore in revenue, up 75% year on year. Its small molecule CDMO business alone grew 86% to ₹875 crore. This matters because CDMO work can create longer term relationships with pharmaceutical companies. But growth still depends on commercial supplies, customer demand, manufacturing execution and capacity utilisation. Laurus also delivered a sharp improvement in profitability. EBITDA rose 78% to ₹762 crore, while its EBITDA margin expanded to 34.5%, compared with 26% a year ago. There is a strategic move worth watching, too. The company announced plans to acquire a 60% stake in Canada-based Galenvs Sciences to strengthen its oligonucleotide capabilities. It also agreed to acquire a 52% stake in SI&C Resins to build capabilities around peptide manufacturing inputs. My view: Laurus Labs is showing strong operating momentum, with CDMO growth contributing to both revenue expansion and better margins. However, investors should not assume that one strong quarter guarantees the same pace of growth ahead. The next test is whether new manufacturing capacity and acquisitions translate into sustained revenue growth and healthy returns on capital. I would track CDMO growth, margins, capital expenditure and utilisation over the next two quarters.
