1. Universal banking licence — biggest structural trigger
AU has already filed its final application for a universal banking licence after RBI relaxed the NOFHC requirement. If approved, AU can potentially access a much broader banking opportunity and reduce the constraints associated with the SFB model.
2. Strong deposit franchise
Deposits growing 24% while CASA stands at 29% is encouraging. Importantly, cost of funds declined by around 60 bps YoY, which helped NIM expansion.
3. Diversification
AU is expanding beyond its traditional secured lending franchise into credit cards, consumer banking, wealth management, insurance and digital banking. Its AI-led loan-origination and banking initiatives could improve scalability and customer acquisition.
4. Institutional interest
RBI has approved ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company to acquire up to 9.95% of AU Small Finance Bank. This is a positive institutional-validation signal, although the actual investment and valuation still matter.#FundamentalViews
