GE Vernova T&D India has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a major Power Grid Corporation of India project to design and establish a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission system.
The project will evacuate renewable power from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb in Maharashtra. It involves two converter terminal stations, each with a capacity of 3,000 MW, using line-commutated converter technology.
According to market reports, the project is estimated to be worth approximately ₹13,000 crore, although the company has not disclosed the contract value in its exchange filing. The project is expected to be executed over multiple years, covering design, equipment supply and implementation.
The proposed transmission corridor is part of India's broader expansion of high-capacity power infrastructure to connect renewable-energy generation zones with major consumption centres. HVDC technology is particularly suited to transmitting large volumes of electricity over long distances.
Investor Takeaway: The potential project could strengthen GE Vernova T&D India's order pipeline and improve revenue visibility over the coming years. The development also highlights the company's participation in India's growing power-transmission infrastructure.
However, L1 status does not mean the final contract has been awarded. The formal award and execution timeline remain important factors to monitor.#WatchOutFor#EquityResearch#Miscellaneous#FundamentalViews
