India’s Space Boom Gets a New Safety Layer

India’s private space story is no longer just about rockets going to space. It is also about managing what happens if something goes wrong. IN-SPACe’s liability framework addresses third-party risks from space activities, with insurance requirements designed to protect against potential liabilities arising under international space treaties. The official framework says the insurance amount and conditions are to be prescribed by IN-SPACe. Why does this matter for investors? Because a stronger risk-management framework can make private space launches more commercially scalable. India has already taken a major step forward. In July 2026, Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-I became the first privately developed Indian orbital launch vehicle to successfully launch from Indian soil. India’s space opportunity is expanding beyond rockets into manufacturing, electronics, insurance, infrastructure and specialised engineering capabilities.
