Where Energy Savings Could Reshape Margins

Imagine a cement plant running day after day. The biggest challenge isn’t only producing more cement it is controlling the energy bill. That is why India’s cement industry is increasingly moving toward renewable and green power. According to ICRA, major cement manufacturers could invest around ₹12,000–13,000 crore to expand green power capacity to approximately 5.8–6.0 GW by March 2028. The bigger story is the potential impact on costs. If green power replaces around 25% of conventional power consumption, operating margins could improve by as much as 160 basis points. Across the industry, annual cost savings could exceed ₹6,200 crore. UltraTech Cement

As India’s largest cement manufacturer, UltraTech’s scale makes energy efficiency and renewable-power adoption particularly important. Increasing the share of green power could potentially support long-term cost competitiveness and margins. The key question is not simply “Who is building more cement capacity?” It is also: “Who can produce each tonne of cement at a lower and more sustainable energy cost?” That shift in the cost structure could become an important theme for the Indian cement sector. Green power can reduce energy costs, strengthen operating margins, improve competitiveness, and make large cement manufacturers more resilient over time. What You Can Do Use this information to understand the green-power and cost-efficiency trend in cement, and conduct your own research before making decisions.
