PI Industries Q2 Profit Drops 70% Amid Cost Pressures

Imagine a company investing heavily in research, developing new products and expanding its business. But rising costs and pricing pressure begin to affect its profits. This is the situation faced by PI Industries (PIIND) in Q2 FY27. The company reported a 9% YoY decline in revenue to ₹17.02 billion. EBITDA dropped 57% to ₹2.33 billion, while its EBITDA margin contracted to 13.7%. The biggest concern was net profit, which fell 70% YoY to ₹1.22 billion. Higher input costs, energy expenses, pricing pressure, new product launch costs and continued investment in research and development affected the company's performance. However, the company operates across agricultural sciences, speciality chemicals and pharmaceutical services, with a presence in more than 40 countries. What Can We Learn? A company's revenue growth alone does not tell the complete story. Investors and learners should also understand EBITDA, profit margins, input costs and net profit before evaluating business performance. Quarterly results show how revenue, costs, margins and research investments together shape a company's profitability and future business performance over time.
