Camlin Fine Sciences: Speciality Ingredients Profitable

CAMLINFINE
Camlin Fine Sciences (NSE : CAMLINFINE) makes speciality chemicals and food ingredients across three segments: Speciality Ingredients, Aroma Ingredients and Performance Chemicals. Antioxidants trade under Xtendra (synthetic) and NaSure (natural). The Ezential platform covers functional ingredients for dairy and speciality fats. What happened: In Q1 FY27, consolidated revenue was Rs 519.88 crore. Speciality Ingredients contributed Rs 401.32 crore and was profitable. Aroma Ingredients generated Rs 77.41 crore but recorded a loss of Rs 3.38 crore. Performance Chemicals posted Rs 174.89 crore with a loss of Rs 4.44 crore. The consolidated company reported a net loss. The stock fell 53% over one year and trades at a P/E of 443.72. Why it matters: Camlin acquired Vinpai, a French firm that makes functional ingredients from algae, plants, minerals and vegetable fibres. The company serves over 1,350 customers in more than 80 countries. NaSure natural antioxidants are gaining interest in North America. Xtendra 360, an oil protection product for snack makers and quick-service restaurants, is in development. What I am watching: Speciality Ingredients includes animal nutrition, so segment profit does not purely reflect the food business. Two of the three segments are loss-making. Vinpai adds product breadth, but integration and cross-selling must follow. The real test is whether acquisitions and product development translate into group earnings. My stance: The antioxidants and natural ingredients business has merit. But two of three segments report losses and the group is unprofitable. At 440 times earnings, the stock prices a recovery that has not yet arrived. I do not hold a position in Camlin Fine Sciences at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.
