EIHOTEL
EIH Limited is the flagship company of the Oberoi Group, one of India’s leading luxury hospitality firms. It operates hotels under the Oberoi, Trident and Maidens brands, catering to both leisure and business travellers across India and internationally.
What happened:
In Q1FY27, EIH reported revenue of Rs 6.98 billion, up 15% year on year from Rs 6.09 billion. EBITDA grew from Rs 1.95 billion to Rs 2.07 billion. Profit after tax grew sharply, though the Q1FY26 base was distorted by a one-time negative impact from the Mashobra property. Net margin for FY26 was 22.4%, which is high by Indian listed hospitality standards. The festive season through Q2FY27 and Q3FY27 should support room rates and occupancy.
Why it matters:
EIH operates a concentrated portfolio of luxury properties where room rates are well above industry averages. A 15% revenue rise in Q1FY27 shows that demand for premium hospitality remains intact. EIH plans to add 30 properties worldwide and across India by 2031, operated through direct ownership, joint ventures or management contracts.
What I am watching:
Whether Q2FY27 revenues can sustain the 15% growth rate from Q1FY27. The 30-property expansion plan is ambitious by EIH’s historical standards, and execution pace will matter. Net margin slipped from 28.1% in FY25 to 22.4% in FY26, and I want to see whether that compression has stabilised.
My stance:
EIH’s luxury positioning and strong brand are real competitive advantages in a segment where supply is thin. But the margin decline and an ambitious expansion plan that must be executed well make this a story where the next two to three years will be more revealing than one festive quarter.
I do not hold a position in EIH Ltd at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.#TrendingSectors#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor#EquityResearch
