Interarch’s High-Tech Expansion: Boon or Risk?

INTERARCH
Interarch Building Solutions is expanding beyond conventional factory sheds into data centres, semiconductors, electric vehicles, lithium batteries and renewable-energy manufacturing. This could benefit shareholders if the company converts its growing order book into profitable growth. India’s pre-engineered building market grew from ₹13,000 crore in FY19 to ₹21,000 crore in FY25. It is expected to expand at 9.5–10.5% annually until FY30, reaching ₹33,000–34,500 crore. Data-centre capacity may also rise from 900–950 MW in FY24 to 2,000–2,300 MW by FY27, supporting demand. Since PEBs account for only 3–5% of India’s overall construction market, the long-term opportunity remains sizeable. New-age sectors contributed nearly 35% of its ₹1,864 crore order book as of mid-2026. The company also secured a ₹165 crore order from a major energy company in Vadodara and has executed solar-manufacturing and data-centre projects. Its new Andhra Pradesh plant, expected to start commercial production by September 2026, can handle components weighing up to 20 tonnes. Phase 2 is expected by October 2026. This may reduce outsourcing, improve execution and support margins. Q1FY27 revenue rose 20.7% year-on-year to ₹459.6 crore, while EBITDA increased 24.6% to ₹39.4 crore. However, net profit fell 0.5% to ₹28.2 crore due to lower interest income and higher depreciation. EBITDA margin stood at 8.6%. Management targets FY27 revenue of ₹2,150–2,200 crore, 18% volume growth and deliveries of 190,000 tonnes. For FY28, it aims for ₹2,700 crore revenue and a 9.5–10% EBITDA margin. The expansion offers stronger growth, access to higher-value sectors and possible margin improvement. However, investors must watch execution delays, capacity-related costs, depreciation, cash flows and valuation. At a P/E of 21.2 times, with ROE of 16.8% and ROCE of 23.7% as of September 1, 2026, the strategy looks valuable if execution remains disciplined, but it also carries meaningful risk.
