Allied Blenders Gets Telangana Malt Spirit Licence

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd (

ABDL
) has received a licence from the Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, Telangana, to manufacture malt spirits for potable purposes at its Rangapur facility in Wanaparthy district. The licence permits production of approximately 4.4 million bulk litres (BL) of malt spirit annually, subject to the applicable Telangana excise laws and conditions. What Changes for Allied Blenders? Until now, ABDL has sourced malt spirit from third-party distillers to meet its production requirements. The new licence allows the company to manufacture malt spirit in-house. This represents a form of backward integration, where a company brings an earlier stage of its supply chain under its own operations. It can give ABDL greater control over the availability of an important raw material and may improve operational efficiency. Why Does This Matter? The licence also enables ABDL to develop and manufacture its own single malt whisky products, supporting its expansion into the premium spirits segment. The move comes alongside the company's broader investment in malt production. ABDL has approved ₹115 crore for a new malt distillery and maturation warehouse in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, with an annual capacity of around 3 million bulk litres, targeted for commissioning by Q3 FY28. Together, these initiatives indicate a move towards greater in-house control of malt-spirit production while building capabilities for premium whisky products.
