CreditAccess Grameen profit jumps fourfold

CREDITACC
) reported consolidated net profit of ₹501.6 crore in Q2 FY27, nearly four times the ₹125.8 crore reported a year earlier. Revenue from operations rose 26.2% year-on-year to ₹1,903.7 crore. What happened? A major contributor to the profit growth was a reduction in impairment costs on financial instruments. These fell 43.1% year-on-year to ₹299.2 crore from ₹525.7 crore. Total expenses declined 7.9% to ₹1,233.9 crore despite higher revenue. Why does it matter? Lower credit costs have helped the microfinance lender recover profitability following asset-quality stress across the sector. However, the sustainability of earnings depends on repayment behaviour, borrower quality and the company's ability to grow its loan portfolio responsibly. My view The sharp profit increase reflects improving credit-cost trends alongside revenue growth. However, the year-on-year comparison benefits from the high impairment charge in the previous year's quarter. The focus should now be on whether asset quality remains stable as lending expands. What I am watching next I would track credit costs, gross and net Stage 3 assets, assets under management growth, collection efficiency and profitability to assess the durability of the recovery.
