MCX profit jumps 130% as trading activity surges

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (

MCX
) reported consolidated net profit of ₹454.57 crore in Q2 FY27, up 130% year-on-year from ₹197.47 crore. Revenue from operations surged 114% to ₹799.66 crore. What happened? Total income increased 112% to ₹851.28 crore, while EBITDA rose 151% to ₹611.24 crore. The EBITDA margin expanded to 76.4% from 65.1% a year earlier. The exchange's strong performance reflects increased trading activity across commodity segments. Higher transaction-related revenue supported operating growth, while total expenses increased 40.5% to ₹211.36 crore. On a standalone basis, net profit grew 159% to ₹405.35 crore, while revenue from operations increased 118% to ₹765.61 crore. Why does it matter? MCX's revenue growth significantly outpaced expense growth, resulting in strong operating leverage and margin expansion. However, exchange earnings are closely linked to trading volumes and market activity, which can fluctuate across quarters. My view The quarter demonstrates strong operating momentum and the ability to convert higher trading activity into profitability. The key question is whether the elevated level of activity can be sustained and how diversified the exchange's revenue streams become over time. What I am watching next I would track commodity trading volumes, transaction revenue, EBITDA margins, expense growth and the development of newer exchange businesses. No Recommendations Source: The Economic Times Disclosure: I, my entity, associates or relatives do not have any holding, position or other material interest in Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited.
