EBITDA jumps 72%, but net profit remains the key concern

Piramal Pharma Limited (

PPLPHARMA
) reported strong revenue and operating-profit growth in Q2 FY27, and raised its full-year revenue growth outlook. However, the improvement in operating performance has not yet translated into positive consolidated net profit. Key Q2 FY27 numbers Revenue from operations: ₹2,617 crore, up 28% year-on-year. EBITDA: ₹385 crore, up 72%. EBITDA margin: approximately 14.7%, compared with 11.0% a year earlier. Consolidated net profit after tax: approximately ₹5 crore, versus a loss of ₹99 crore in the year-ago quarter. FY27 revenue growth outlook raised to 19%–20%. Why this matters The improvement in EBITDA indicates better operating leverage and cost discipline. The company’s contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) business was a major growth driver. Yet the small reported net profit highlights the impact of depreciation, interest costs and taxes. What to monitor next CDMO order inflows and capacity utilisation. Whether EBITDA margins remain above year-ago levels. Conversion of operating earnings into net profit and cash flow. Execution against the upgraded FY27 growth outlook. My analytical view The operating trend is encouraging, but investors should not confuse EBITDA growth with net-profit growth. Consistent execution and stronger bottom-line conversion will be important to establish a sustainable earnings recovery. Risk: Regulatory issues, customer concentration, product-quality risks and high operating or financing costs could affect performance.
