Chennai Petroleum reported Q1 FY27 total income of Rs 29,376 crore, up 57.2 percent YoY, and net profit of Rs 1,031 crore. Profit fell 27.5 percent from the previous quarter. The refining margin rose to $8.78 a barrel from $3.22 a year earlier. Q2 FY27 results are not in any source I checked. Q1 FY27 (as reported, results dated 23 July): Total income: Rs 29,376.45 crore, up 57.2 percent YoY Net profit: Rs 1,031.35 crore, down 27.5 percent from Rs 1,421.85 crore in the prior quarter Refining margin: $8.78 a barrel, from $3.22 a year earlier Chennai Petroleum [

][***** closed at Rs 1,440.31 on 22 October on StockGro, up 0.6 percent from Rs 1,431.30. The stock is about 13 percent below its Rs 1,661.01 high and about twice its Rs 724.29 low. At a P/E of 3.8, the stock looks cheap on trailing earnings, but refining earnings are cyclical, and the P/E rises if the margin falls. My view: hold for holders, no fresh money yet. My 15 September post was constructive and named crude below $90 as its invalidation. I could not find a confirmed crude price for today, so that test is open. I am moving the stance from accumulate to hold until the crude check is done. Fresh money waits for a confirmed crude price above $90 and a Q2 FY27 result that shows the margin held. Without both, no fresh money. My exit is a close below the crude invalidation of $90 set in my 15 September post, tested against a confirmed crude price.
