Coal India Breached Historic 70 Million Tonne Supply Mark

State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) achieved a landmark milestone as its monthly coal supplies crossed the 70-million-tonne (MT) mark for the first time in the company's history. Total off-take surged to 70.3 MT in October 2026, eclipsing its previous record of 69.4 MT set in March 2026. This stellar performance represents a robust 19 per cent year-on-year growth over the 59.2 MT supplied during October of the previous financial year. The record-breaking operational momentum coincided with the state-backed miner celebrating its 51st Foundation Day on November 1, 2026. It highlights the PSU's aggressive focus on reinforcing domestic fuel availability and scaling logistics capacity. The sharp acceleration in dispatches comes at a critical time when thermal utilities across the country faced surging power demand alongside depleting domestic stockpile inventories.
