Jindal Stainless Q2 Updates : Profit Rises 11%

Jindal Stainless (

JSL
) Q2 Profit Rises 11% — But FY27 Growth Guidance Is Cut Jindal Stainless reported an 11.1% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹898 crore in Q2 FY27. Revenue rose 18.2% to ₹12,874 crore, but the company has lowered its full-year volume growth outlook, reflecting operational disruptions and pressure from the West Asian crisis. Key Q2 FY27 Highlights - Revenue increased 18.2% year-on-year to ₹12,874 crore. - Net profit rose 11.1% to ₹898 crore. - EBITDA grew 3.2% to ₹1,433 crore. - Stainless steel sales volumes increased 2.5% to 6.64 lakh tonnes. - Exports grew 36% year-on-year, accounting for 11% of total sales. - Net debt stood at ₹3,121 crore, with a net debt-to-equity ratio of 0.15 times. Why Is the Outlook Important? Jindal Stainless has reduced its FY27 volume growth guidance to 4–6%, from the earlier 7–9%. However, it raised its EBITDA-per-tonne guidance to ₹20,000–22,000, compared with ₹18,000–20,000 previously. The company is recovering from Q1 operational disruptions, but rising imports—particularly from China—remain a challenge for domestic stainless steel producers. Additionally, ₹116.41 crore of Q2 profit came from an exceptional gain, which investors should separate from recurring operating performance. My View Jindal Stainless is showing resilience through revenue growth, stronger exports and improved profitability per tonne. However, the reduction in volume guidance signals that demand and operating conditions remain challenging. The key monitorables are domestic sales volumes, export growth, imported steel competition and the sustainability of EBITDA per tonne. Investors should also distinguish recurring earnings from exceptional gains when assessing profit growth. For me, the central question is whether the company can protect margins and improve profitability despite slower volume growth. Strong earnings matter, but the quality and sustainability of those earnings matter just as much.
