Ardee Industries: capacity doubled cheaply, but margins?

Ardee Industries (NSE: ARDEE) is among India's top-six pure lead manufacturers, with a 2.09% market share in FY26. It recycles used lead-acid batteries into high-purity lead for automotive, telecom, inverter and renewable energy storage applications from its Tamil Nadu plant. What happened: FY26 revenue grew to Rs 1,167.7 crore from Rs 463 crore in FY24, a 58.8% CAGR. PAT jumped from Rs 9 crore to Rs 84.7 crore. EBITDA margins expanded from 6.1% to 12.6%. But Q1 FY27 showed a speed bump: revenue rose 35.2% YoY to Rs 338.8 crore; volume grew 13.6% to 17,645 tonnes; EBITDA was flat at Rs 33.8 crore with margins contracting from ~13.5% to 10%; PAT rose just 5.8% to Rs 19.9 crore. Middle East shipping disruptions hit scrap procurement. Why it matters: Ardee expanded installed capacity by 50.9% to 1,56,950 MTPA via brownfield debottlenecking for just Rs 15 crore. Current utilisation is ~65%, with optimum at 70-75%. Exports reached Rs 465.1 crore in FY26 and were 38.7% of Q1 FY27 revenue across eight countries. LME empanelment for the Ardee Lead 9997 brand widens the export market. The IPO strengthened the balance sheet: long-term debt is ~Rs 20 crore, with ~Rs 150 crore in fixed deposits. ROCE peaked at 49% in FY26; management guides for 20%-plus once IPO capital is deployed. What I am watching: EBITDA margin recovery toward 12%, volume growth execution against FY27 guidance of 10-20%, and working capital days staying in the 90-100 day range as exports scale. My stance: The capital efficiency case is proven. The next test is margin recovery and cash conversion. At 18.4x PE versus a five-year median of 16.4x, the stock prices in recovery, not distress. Total Income: Total income for Q1FY27 stood at Rs 3,390.36 million, a decline of 4.31% compared to Rs 3,543.09 million in Q4FY26 (QoQ) and a growth of 35.16% versus Rs 2,508.33 million in Q1FY26 (YoY). Profit Before Tax: The profit before tax in Q1FY27 was Rs 266.77 million, down 13.60% from Rs 308.75 million in Q4FY26 (QoQ), but up 4.97% from Rs 254.14 million in Q1FY26 (YoY). Net Profit for the Period: The company earned a net profit of Rs 199.03 million in Q1FY27, a decrease of 16.14% from Rs 237.35 million in Q4FY26 (QoQ) and an increase of 5.99% from Rs 187.79 million in Q1FY26 (YoY).
