Results: Profit Growth Signals Improving Banking Performance

Imagine a bank strengthening its business one quarter at a time. Punjab National Bank (PNB) reported a 13% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹5,532 crore for Q2 FY27. Its net interest income increased by around 10.8% to ₹11,601 crore, while its gross NPA ratio improved to 2.55% from 3.45% a year earlier. For market learners, these numbers highlight how profitability, core banking income and asset quality can influence the outlook for a public sector bank. However, rising profits alone do not guarantee future share-price appreciation. Deposit costs, loan growth, fresh bad loans and net interest margins also deserve attention. 🔎 **Stock in Focus: Punjab National Bank (NSE:

PNB
)** As a Nifty 500 constituent, PNB provides an educational case study of how quarterly earnings and asset-quality trends can shape market sentiment. Investors can study subsequent price action, trading volume and market reaction to understand whether positive results are already reflected in the stock price. Strong earnings matter, but sustainable banking performance depends on credit quality, margins, deposit growth, risk management and reasonable market valuation over time. Punjab National Bank analysis on different parameters

PNB
Quality :- Punjab National Bank’s recent quarterly results for Q1 FY26-27 reveal a continuation of its steady financial trajectory. The bank reported a Net Interest Income (NII) of ₹10,798.36 crore, marking a peak for the period and underscoring its robust lending capabilities. The asset quality remains a focal point, with the Gross Non-Performing Assets (NPA) ratio recorded at a low 2.78%, while the Net NPA ratio stands at an even more conservative 0.28%. These figures suggest prudent risk management and effective recovery mechanisms, which contribute to the bank’s operational soundness. Valuation :- Punjab National Bank presents an attractive profile relative to its sector peers. The Price to Book Value ratio is approximately 0.9, signalling that the stock is trading at a discount compared to the historical averages of comparable public sector banks. This valuation metric, combined with a Price/Earnings to Growth (PEG) ratio of 0.2, suggests that the market may not have fully priced in the bank’s earnings growth potential. Financial :- Over the last week, the stock has outperformed the Sensex with a 3.50% gain compared to the benchmark’s 0.20%. The one-month return also remains positive at 1.41%, while the Sensex experienced a decline of 2.67% during the same period. Year-to-date, the stock has recorded a negative return of 4.29%, yet this is considerably less severe than the Sensex’s 14.60% decline. Technical :- technical indicators have contributed to a more favourable market assessment. Weekly technical signals such as the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Bollinger Bands are currently bullish, while monthly indicators show a mixed but improving outlook. The daily moving averages also support a positive trend, reinforcing short-term momentum.

PNB Housing: Trendline Break Meets Resistance

In this morning’s note,

PNBHOUSING
was testing a falling trendline drawn from the August highs, with RSI near 61 and rising volume. The 1-hour chart now shows what followed. The stock moved above the line, retested it from above around 1,155-1,160, and then pushed up to 1,203, close to the 1,205 horizontal resistance. That level has capped the stock several times since August, and price is now trading near 1,197 with RSI at 69.89, close to the overbought zone of 70. This is a useful example of how a trendline break works in stages. Stage one is the break itself. Stage two is the retest, where the old resistance often acts as support. Stage three is the move towards the next barrier. The stock has completed these steps, and it is now at the barrier that has stopped earlier rallies. Levels to note: resistance at 1,204.5, with support at the 1,155-1,160 trendline retest zone and then the 1,080-1,100 swing lows. How price behaves around 1,204.5 is worth observing. A close above it with strong volume would suggest a range breakout, while repeated rejections could mean a pause within the earlier range. A trendline break often follows three steps: the break, a retest of the old line, and a move to the next resistance, where price reaction decides what follows. Nifty Eyes 22,640 as PNB Housing Tests Trendline

Nifty ended last day of the week on a firm note. It rebounded from the 22,179 swing low and settled near 22,520, above the 22,500 mark. A falling trendline around 22,640 still caps the move, so the index remains in a recovery phase below it. RSI at 56.67 has turned up above the midline, which supports the recovery for now. Resistance: 22,640 / 22,750. Pivot zone: 22,490-22,420. Support: 22,350 / 22,179. While the pivot zone holds, the 22,640 trendline stays in view. A slip below 22,420 could bring 22,350 back into focus. The first half-hour to one hour of trade may set the cue for the day.

PNBHOUSING
(4H) has recovered from the late-September lows and is now at a falling trendline drawn from the August highs, near 1,155. RSI at 60.88 and a pickup in volume on the advance suggest improving momentum. A sustained close above the line would bring the 1,204.5 horizontal resistance into view. If it fails to hold, the 1,080-1,100 area could come back into play. A falling trendline acts as resistance until price closes above it with volume; the way price reacts on a retest often shows whether the move is genuine. PNB Housing Finance eyes a breakout above ₹1,153 !!

PNB Housing Finance eyes a breakout above ₹1,153 PNB Housing Finance Limited (NSE: PNBHOUSING) is back on the technical radar after showing signs of renewed buying interest. Market expert Raja Venkatraman of NeoTrader identified a potential multiday buying setup above ₹1,153, with a stop-loss at ₹1,090. His published analysis also highlights ₹1,210.80 as the 52-week high. 1. What is happening? The stock has spent recent weeks consolidating after periodic profit-taking. According to the analyst, price support around important Ichimoku levels and a rebound in the Relative Strength Index suggest that buying momentum may be improving. The key question is whether the stock can sustain a move above ₹1,153 rather than briefly crossing the level and falling back. 2. Why it matters A sustained breakout could indicate that buyers are regaining control after consolidation. However, a single price move is not enough to confirm a new uptrend, particularly when the broader market remains volatile.
