Nestlé India Invests in Captive Solar Power

NESTLEIND
Nestlé India has agreed to acquire a 26% equity stake in Radiance KA Sunshine Seven Private Limited for ₹7.61 crore to support the establishment of a captive renewable energy power arrangement for one of its manufacturing facilities. Radiance KA operates a solar power plant in Karnataka with a capacity of 17.5 MW AC / 26.25 MWp DC. The investment is intended to help Nestlé increase the share of renewable energy in its operations while meeting the regulatory requirements applicable to captive power users. In my view, the development is strategically positive even though the investment amount is relatively small for Nestlé India. Captive renewable power can potentially provide greater visibility over long-term energy sourcing and reduce exposure to fluctuations in conventional power costs, while also supporting the company's sustainability objectives. Since the stake is structured to enable captive consumption rather than as a purely financial investment, the key benefit will depend on the economics and reliability of the power supplied to the manufacturing facility. Investors should monitor whether Nestlé expands similar renewable-energy arrangements across other facilities and the resulting impact on operating costs. Overall, the investment reflects a positive step towards improving renewable-energy integration and potentially strengthening long-term energy-cost management.

Sunshine Pictures IPO

Does stock fall in these catagories?: Strong Management Aligned Interest: Promoters are retaining a 75% stake post-IPO, signaling high confidence and skin-in-the-game. Content Library & IP Assets: The company owns long-tail revenue rights music and social media exploitation from its past successful films, providing a base layer of recurring income. Experience & Track Record: Proven ability to produce high-impact, controversial cinema e.g., The Kerala Story impact which creates "revenge viewing" and viral marketing, often outperforming traditional content. Low Debt: The company operates with minimal debt; IPO funds are primarily aimed at replacing high-cost working capital loans. Key Risks Discussed: Deteriorating Financials: Revenue has been in a consistent downward trend 133 Cr → 100 Cr → 74 Cr, indicating a struggle to maintain consistent output. Hit-or-Miss Business Model: The company’s financial success is binary—entirely dependent on whether individual movies/shows become viral hits or controversies. Overvaluation: The IPO asks for a valuation of ₹1100 Cr, which is not supported by current earnings or physical asset depth. Trade Receivables: While not yet marked as "doubtful," there is a notable amount of money stuck in receivables, common in the media industry. Execution Risk: Shifting from consolidated to standalone financials creates opacity in understanding historical performance compared to future projections.

Sunshine Pictures IPO is set to open for public subscription on Tuesday, 18 August. The book build issue is hitting the primary market at a time when market sentiment is weak due to persistent uncertainty over US-Iran talks and crude oil price volatility. Sunshine Pictures is a production house engaged in creating, developing, producing, marketing and distributing films, TV serials, and web series. Meanwhile, grey market trends suggest investors are optimistic about the issue, as the latest grey market premium (GMP) signals the stock could list at a decent premium.
