Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) Latest Updates

GMDCLTD
GMDC's financial performance for the first quarter of FY26 showed a decline in key metrics. The company reported a revenue of ₹732.60 crore, which is a decrease from the same quarter in the previous year. Similarly, its Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at ₹224.33 crore, also showing a decline. Despite this, the company's management has stated a focus on cost efficiency and the timely execution of projects to ensure long-term value. A major strategic focus for GMDC is its push into the critical minerals sector, particularly rare earth elements. The company is actively exploring opportunities in this area, which has gained significant attention from the government. The government has reportedly increased its investment plan for GMDC's rare earth development activities from ₹1,350 crore to ₹5,000 crore, aiming to enhance domestic production and reduce import reliance. This has led to an increase in public interest and a notable surge in the company's stock price. In its core business, GMDC is expanding its lignite production capabilities. The company is in the process of developing six new lignite mines across Gujarat. These mines are located at Lakhpat-Punrajpar, Ghala, Damlai, Valia, Panandhro Extension, and Bharkandam. These projects are intended to increase production capacity to meet the state's energy demands, as several older mines are reaching the end of their operational life. The company has also been issuing tenders for various projects, including the installation of critical mineral processing and training facilities.
