TATA STEEL IN FOCUS

TATASTEEL
Kalinganagar Expansion Project Completed: Tata Steel announced the completion of the Phase II expansion project at its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha. This significant expansion, undertaken at an investment of ₹27,000 crore, has boosted the Kalinganagar plant's capacity from 3 million tonnes (MT) to 8 MT per annum. This brings Tata Steel's overall capacity in India to 26.1 MT, positioning it to supply advanced high-strength steels for sectors like automotive, infrastructure, power, shipbuilding, and defence. The new blast furnace at Kalinganagar is now the largest in India. Q4 FY25 Results: Earlier in May, Tata Steel reported a consolidated net profit of ₹1,201 crore for the quarter ended March 2025, which more than doubled from the same period last year and beat Street estimates. Consolidated revenue from operations was ₹56,218 crore, a slight decrease year-on-year but up sequentially. The company also declared a dividend of ₹3.60 per share for FY25. UK Operations Update: Tata Steel's UK operations are undergoing a major transition towards greener steelmaking. The company has ceased "legacy steelmaking" at its Port Talbot plant, with Blast Furnace 4 ceasing operations. Tata Steel is investing £1.25 billion (with a £500 million grant from the UK government) to install a state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at Port Talbot. Construction for the EAF project is expected to begin by July 2025, aiming to significantly reduce carbon emissions and sustain jobs in the UK. The company has engaged local contractors for this green steel-making project.
