BFUTILITIE
BF Utilities is a Kalyani Group company with two principal businesses: wind power generation and infrastructure, primarily through its interests in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project. The business is quite different from a conventional utility because a significant part of its reported earnings can be influenced by infrastructure-related income, settlements and exceptional items. This makes headline revenue and PAT somewhat volatile and requires looking beyond a single year's numbers.
FY26 was strong on a standalone basis, with segment revenue of about ₹421.8 crore and profit before tax before exceptional items of ₹66.3 crore. However, infrastructure earnings declined sharply versus FY25, when the company benefited from much higher income from that segment. More recently, Q1 FY27 was weak: standalone revenue from operations was ₹5.88 crore, while the company reported a ₹5.03 crore net loss compared with a ₹6.42 crore profit in Q1 FY26. The wind business remains an important recurring component, but quarterly generation and profitability can be seasonal.
At around ₹501, the stock trades at a low headline P/E, but the valuation needs considerable caution because the earnings base is volatile and book value is relatively low, resulting in a high P/B multiple. The biggest attraction is the potential value embedded in its infrastructure assets and the group's ability to monetize or improve those assets, while wind generation provides an operating business with recurring cash flows. On the other hand, the recent losses, infrastructure-related uncertainty, high reported debt-to-equity on Groww, lack of dividend and recent compliance/governance issues are meaningful concerns.#FundamentalViews#StockInNews#EquityResearch#HiddenGems#Post-ClosingCommentary
