Gamma Scalping: The Trader's Game of Volatility: part 2

THIS IS PART 2 READ PART 1 FOR PRIOR INFO 5. Where Does Profit Come From? The gamma is your edge. Let’s say the stock keeps bouncing between ₹100 and ₹105. • Each move changes your delta • You rebalance with small buys/sells • These tiny adjustments accumulate profits • The longer it bounces, the more you scalp You don’t care if it ends at ₹100 or ₹105 — you’ve already made money from the movement. 6. Risks Involved 1. Theta Decay: Options lose value over time. If the price doesn’t move enough, you lose from time decay. 2. Commissions/Execution Cost: Frequent trades can eat into profits unless you're using low-cost brokers. 3. Volatility Drop: If implied volatility crashes, the options lose value quickly, affecting your setup. 7. Ideal Conditions for Gamma Scalping Gamma scalping thrives in: • Event-driven weeks (e.g., earnings, policy news) • Range-bound but volatile markets • When you expect lots of movement but don’t know direction It doesn’t work well when: • IV is overpriced • Price is stagnant • You don’t actively monitor and rebalance 8. Who Should Use It? This isn’t a “buy and forget” strategy. It’s great for: • Experienced options traders • Algo traders or funds • Anyone who is good at timing execution and reading intraday charts 9. A Realistic Example (Simple Numbers) Let’s say: • You buy a straddle at ₹100. • Stock moves to ₹105. Your position delta = +0.6 • You sell 60 shares to become delta neutral • Stock drops to ₹100 → Your delta = –0.6 • You buy back 60 shares at a lower price You’ve just bought low and sold high. Even if the straddle’s value didn’t change, your stock trading made you money. 10. Final Thought Gamma scalping is like running a volatility business. You don't care where the price ends up — only that it keeps moving. It’s the opposite of “buy and hold.” It’s “balance and profit... repeatedly.”
