IRFC — Financial Performance & Outlook

IRFC
Recent / Q1 FY26 Performance • Net profit after tax in Q1 FY26 was ₹1,745.69 crore, up ~11% YoY from ~₹1,576.83 crore in Q1 FY25. • Revenue from operations in the same quarter rose ~2% to ~₹6,915 crore. • Net interest margin (annualized) improved to ~1.53%, its best in the last three years. • Book value per share is ~₹41.65. Net worth has increased to ~₹54,424 crore. Q4 FY25 / FY25 Trends • In Q4 FY25, IRFC’s net profit dropped ~2% YoY to ~₹1,682 crore, compared with ~₹1,717 crore a year earlier. • Revenue for Q4 FY25 rose ~3.8% YoY to ~₹6,723 crore. Strengths & Key Highlights • Clean loan book — no non-performing assets. • Strong capital base and low overheads help maintain margins even when revenue growth is modest. • Regulatory/ownership benefits: Government of India holds ~86.36% stake. • Approval for issuance of deep-discount bonds (zero-coupon style) up to large sums, giving more flexibility in raising funds. • Declared interim/shareholder dividends — reflecting cash flow strength. Risks & Challenges • Revenue / profit growth is slow because much of Indian Railways’ funding is now via direct budgetary support rather than via IRFC, reducing demand for IRFC’s financing. • Margins are tight as IOU spreads are thin and cost of capital remains a factor. • High dependence on government policy / budgetary allocation for the rail sector. If allocations reduce or priorities shift, IRFC could be negatively affected. Outlook • IRFC is likely to benefit if Indian Railways’ capex remains strong and government continues to rely on IRFC to raise extra-budgetary resources. • Debt-raising via innovative instruments (deep-discount bonds etc.) is a positive. • With no NPAs, strong capital, and stable revenue, it’s relatively safe among NBFC/PSU financial names — more of a yield / income play than high growth.
