Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd — FY25 / Q4 FY25 Summary & Outlook

MAZDOCK
\ Financial Overview & Q4 FY25 Performance • FY25 revenue grew ~14% year-on-year to about ₹10,775 crore from ~₹9,467 crore in FY24. • In Q4 FY25, revenue from operations was ~₹3,174 crore. • Profit after tax (PAT) in Q4 fell sharply (~51% YoY) to ~₹325 crore vs ~₹663 crore in Q4 FY24. • EBITDA plunged similarly, showing margin compression; operations in Q4 saw weaker margins relative to prior year quarters. Order Book, Projects & Strategy • The order book remains strong at ~₹34,000-₹35,000 crore as of late FY25, giving good revenue visibility for the next 1-2 years. • Several major contracts are in the pipeline or underway, including submarine / naval build-ups under India’s defence procurement plans. • The company is expanding via acquisition too: it has taken a controlling stake in Colombo Dockyard (Sri Lanka). Dividend & Shareholder Returns • MDL declared a final dividend of ₹2.71 per equity share (face value ₹5) for FY25. • Additionally, interim dividends were paid earlier in the fiscal. Key Strengths • Leadership in defence shipbuilding (ships, submarines, warships) with strong government backing. • Healthy order backlog that ensures work for several years. • Good reputation and strategic importance in India’s defence and maritime infrastructure agenda. Risks & Weaknesses • Significant drop in Q4 PAT suggests volatility in profit due to margin pressure, cost overruns or lower productivity. • Operational / execution risks: large-scale projects in defence are complex and often delayed. • Dependence on government contracts makes revenue somewhat policy-sensitive. Any delays or budgetary cuts in defence could impact revenue. Outlook Mazagon Dock is positioned to benefit from rising defence spending and India’s push toward self-reliance in naval manufacturing. With major projects likely in the submarine and warship segments, MDL has strong potential over medium term.
