NSE Rejigs Nifty50: Jio Financial, Zomato In; BPCL, Britannia Out
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced revisions to its benchmark indices, set to take effect on March 28, 2025. As part of its semi-annual reshuffle, Jio Financial Services and Zomato will be included in the Nifty50 index, replacing Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Britannia Industries. Selection Criteria & Market Impact The adjustments are based on the average free float market capitalization from August 1 to January 31. Jio Financial Services and Zomato are anticipated to attract substantial inflows, with projections estimating $497 million for Zomato and $228 million for Jio Financial Services. Conversely, companies being removed from the Nifty50 index are expected to see capital outflows. Britannia Industries is projected to witness outflows of approximately $178 million, while BPCL may experience outflows of around $150 million. These modifications will also be reflected in the Nifty50 Equal Weight index. These periodic revisions aim to ensure that the index remains representative of the evolving market landscape, providing investors with a more accurate reflection of market trends.
