The Groww link for Orient Refractories now maps to Orient Ceratech Ltd, formerly Orient Abrasives. The company is a specialised manufacturer of aluminium refractories and monolithic products, with additional exposure to bauxite mining and power generation. Its refractory business benefits from India's expanding steel capacity because refractories are critical consumables for furnaces and steelmaking operations. The company is also increasing its export presence and focusing on higher-performance refractory products, backward integration and process optimisation.
FY26 was a strong improvement year. Consolidated revenue from operations increased to about ₹397 crore from ₹322 crore in FY25, while profit after tax rose to roughly ₹22 crore, more than doubling year-on-year. The improvement continued in Q1 FY27: consolidated revenue reached ₹102.4 crore, up around 2.7% YoY, while PAT increased 99.3% to ₹8.57 crore. Operating profit improved substantially, with operating margin around 13% according to reported quarterly figures. This indicates that the recent earnings improvement has been supported not only by revenue growth but also by better operating efficiency and cost control.
The key opportunity is India's long-term steel-capacity expansion, which can increase demand for refractory products, alongside higher exports and value-added product development. The company also has relatively high promoter ownership of around 63.9%, while the business remains diversified through mining and power operations. The main risks are steel-industry cyclicality, raw-material costs, export-market uncertainty, freight costs and the relatively small scale of the business.
Overall, Orient Ceratech has shown a meaningful improvement in profitability, and Q1 FY27 was particularly strong on earnings; the key factor to monitor is whether the higher margins and profit growth can be sustained as the company scales its refractory and export businesses.#StockInNews#EquityResearch#HiddenGems#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor
