ITC
has exposure to cigarettes, packaged foods, personal care, paperboards and other businesses. Each segment has a different growth profile and cost structure.
What I would track:
Cigarette business
Volume trends, pricing and taxation influence revenue and profitability.
FMCG portfolio
Growth in packaged foods and personal care can help diversify the business, but margins and brand investment matter.
Paperboards and packaging
Demand and raw-material costs influence this segment's performance.
Capital allocation
Cash generation, dividends and investment in growing businesses all affect shareholder value.
My view
ITC should not be evaluated solely on its dividend history or the performance of one segment. I would examine consolidated cash flow, segment profitability and the valuation of the overall business.
The key question is whether the newer businesses can strengthen the earnings profile while established segments continue to generate cash.
