Adani Ports gains 4.9% near 52-week high
Adani Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited closed September 18 at ₹1,824, gaining 4.93% and emerging as the top Nifty 50 gainer for the session. The stock traded with strong volume and finished close to its 52-week high of ₹1,891.10.
The immediate catalyst was renewed investor attention following a Jefferies India Forum discussion. According to reports, the company's management remained confident about achieving a 1 billion tonne cargo target by 2030. Jefferies also highlighted domestic organic growth, international port ramp-up and logistics as potential growth drivers. These are management comments and brokerage analysis, not guaranteed outcomes.
There is also a concrete capacity development behind the longer-term story. APSEZ recently received the Letter of Award for two dry bulk berths at Paradip Port. The project adds 18 million tonnes of mechanised dry bulk capacity and carries a 30-year concession period. The company said this would take its domestic portfolio to 671 MMT.
My view: the important factor is the combination of existing port infrastructure, additional capacity and logistics integration. But the 1 billion tonne target is a future objective, not current throughput. Investors should track cargo volumes, concession utilisation, international operations and capital allocation.
Technically, ₹1,824 is an important level because it was Friday's close. The 52-week high near ₹1,891 becomes the next major reference. A sustained move toward that zone with volume would keep the momentum structure strong. Failure to hold ₹1,800 after the sharp gain would indicate profit-taking and could bring the stock back toward its recent consolidation.
The next operating numbers to watch are cargo growth, EBITDA per tonne, logistics contribution and net debt.
Call: Watch the ₹1,800–₹1,824 zone for support and ₹1,891 as the broader resistance reference.
