RBL: Profit Jumps 170%, Yet the Stock Faces Selling Pressure

RBLBANK
A strong earnings number does not always translate into a rising share price. RBL Bank offered a useful example on October 13. The bank reported standalone net profit of approximately ₹482 crore for the September quarter, compared with ₹179 crore a year earlier. Net interest income rose 37% year-on-year to ₹2,131 crore. Asset quality also improved: 1. Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.02% from 1.30% in the previous quarter. 2. Net non-performing assets fell to 0.29% from 0.37%. Yet the stock reportedly fell as much as 8% during Tuesday's trading session. What could investors be assessing? The quality and sustainability of earnings matter as much as headline profit growth. Investors may also be evaluating funding sources, loan growth, margins and how much of the improvement can continue in coming quarters. My takeaway RBL Bank deserves closer fundamental analysis, but a large profit increase is not sufficient by itself to justify a bullish view. I would monitor price stabilisation, deposit trends, credit costs and the next quarterly update before drawing a stronger conclusion. Research disclosure: . Holding status: No holding status.
