shares declined for a third straight session on September 2 after the exchange acknowledged lower trading participation following CAS.
BSE shares extended their decline for the third consecutive session on September 2, 2026, amid concerns over lower trading participation following the introduction of the Closing Auction Session (CAS).
The stock witnessed sharp intraday volatility, falling more than 4% from the day’s high between 10:45 am and 11:20 am.
The decline adds to the recent weakness in the counter, with BSE shares now down around 29% from their all-time high recorded in May 2026.
The key trigger for the sharp intraday fall was the exchange’s comments on the impact of CAS on market participation. BSE management acknowledged that the newly introduced Closing Auction Session has resulted in lower trading volumes.
"CAS has led to lower participation from HFTs, proprietary accounts and retail traders. CAS participation needs to pick up," the exchange’s management told Zee Business.
At the close on September 2, BSE shares ended 2.28% lower at ₹3,168 apiece, extending the stock’s recent corrective trend.
