📌 HFCL: Army Contract Triggers Intraday High, But Bigger Trend Remains Weak

HFCL
(Price: ₹72.10, 28 Aug, 10:29 AM IST) surged to the day’s high after reports that its subsidiary secured a ₹101.82 crore contract from the Indian Army. HFCL, established in 1987, is a leading technology enterprise engaged in telecom infrastructure, OFC, and high-end communication solutions. While the news-driven spike lifted intraday sentiment, the broader structure of the stock remains decisively weak. HFCL is hovering close to its 52-week low of ₹70.35, and is still down more than 57% from its 52-week high of ₹171. Prices are in a persistent downtrend, trading below all key moving averages, with ₹80 likely to act as a major resistance level in the near term. On the valuation front, concerns remain elevated. HFCL’s PE ratio of 306x is significantly higher than the sector average of 19.59x, while ROE at 4.25% and ROCE at 8.61% remain unimpressive. This suggests supply pressure at higher levels, where institutional players may be applying a “Sell on Rise” (distribution) strategy. Financial performance has also deteriorated. The company reported a profit of ₹82 crore in Sep 2024 quarter, but by Mar 2025, it slipped into a loss of ₹82.2 crore. With total revenue and net profit both declining since 2023, the bounce post weak numbers (after Mar 25) appears to be a “dead cat bounce.” 🔎 Technical & Fundamental View: • Structure indicates a redistribution phase with lower peaks, reflecting weak buying pressure. • Valuations are stretched, profitability under strain, and trend momentum remains bearish. • Any short-term rally on news flow should be approached with caution. 📌 Disclaimer: This content is for information only and not investment advice.
