Market Selloff Deepens Amid Trade War Tensions

On April 10, 2025, U.S. stock markets faced a steep selloff. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 each dropped over 6%, while the Dow Jones plunged more than 2,000 points, erasing much of the previous day’s gains. This sharp reversal comes just 24 hours after a market rally on April 9, fueled by U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of a temporary 90-day hold on reciprocal tariffs for select countries. However, sentiment turned sour as Trump imposed a massive 145% tariff on Chinese imports, reigniting fears of a full-blown U.S.-China trade war. The sudden escalation triggered widespread panic selling, especially in tech and manufacturing stocks heavily reliant on China. Meanwhile, the Indian stock market remained closed today in observance of Mahavir Jayanti, missing the opportunity to reflect the brief optimism from the U.S. rally. Unfortunately, by the time Indian markets reopen on April 11, the focus may shift to the sharp U.S. decline instead. Investors are now on edge, watching closely for further developments in global trade tensions. What are your thoughts? How do you think Indian markets will react when they open tomorrow, April 11?
