Pharma Index Falls Over 2% on September 25 — Logs Fifth Straight Weekly Loss

The Nifty Pharma Index extended its losing streak, slipping over 2% on September 25 — its fifth consecutive daily decline and ending the week down 5.2%. Persistent selling pressure gripped the sector amid global trade concerns and tariff shocks.

LAURUSLABS
led the fall, plunging over 7% yesterday, and now trades 12% below its all-time high, which was made just last week. Other major players like
BIOCON
also witnessed sharp declines around 4.8%. The weakness came after the U.S. announced a 100% tariff on branded and patented drugs imported from companies without manufacturing bases in America, effective October 1, 2025. Though generic drugs remain exempted, the move sparked fears of a broader trade war. “Tariff pe tariff, tariff pe tariff” sentiment dominated markets, dragging broader indices lower. The Nifty 50 fell over 2% for the week, its fifth straight weekly loss, as the H1-B visa fee hike to $100,000 added to global concerns. 📌 Disclaimer: This content is for information only and not investment advice.
