Sensex, Nifty Slide as Broader Markets Crack; All Eyes on Fed Policy

On May 6, 2025, all major equity indices closed in the red, weighed down by broad-based selling. The Sensex fell 150 points, while the Nifty slipped below 23,400. Bank Nifty plunged 648 points, and Nifty Midcap Select lost over 256 points, with mid- and small-cap indices dropping around 2%. Selling pressure was led by PSU banks, oil & gas, and auto stocks, dragging market sentiment lower. All Nifty Auto stocks ended in the red.

HEROMOTOCO
and
BHARTIARTL
emerged as top gainers among the Nifty-50, while
ADANIENT
and
BPCL
were the top losers. Investor focus now shifts to the FOMC policy meeting, with expectations that the Fed will hold rates steady at 4.25%–4.5%. Disclaimer: This post is for informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice.
