The Indian equity benchmarks posted their worst single-day performance since June 4, 2024 as trade tensions, sparked by US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement, sent investors dumping risk assets across the world.
The SENSEX fell as much as 5% in intraday deals before staging partial recovery in the last 30 minutes of trading and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 21,743.65 on the back of a broad-based selloff. The SENSEX ended 2,226.79 points or 2.95% lower at 73,137.90 and NIFTY50 index dropped 743 points or 3.24% to close at 22,161.60.
