Power Grid commissions part of 20 GW Rajasthan REZ system
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited
POWERGRID
commissioned Phase-III Part-C1 of its Rajasthan renewable energy zone transmission system in October 2026. The full system is designed to carry power from 20 GW of renewable capacity.
What happened: This follows Part-H of Phase-III, commissioned in August 2026. In March 2026, Phase-III projects worth ₹3,600 crore were inaugurated in Rajasthan. So two parts have been commissioned about two months apart. The 20 GW is the design size of the whole system, not what Part-C1 alone can carry.
Why it matters: A commissioned line can begin earning regulated tariff and adds to the company’s asset base. It also gives solar developers in Rajasthan a way to send power to demand centres in other states.
My view: This is steady, on-schedule delivery, not a step change. My data has no cost, line length or tariff for Part-C1, so I cannot size the earnings it adds. Other parts of the system are still to come, and I do not know how many or when. One point to keep in mind is that a line only helps developers if their plants are ready to use it. Transmission tariffs usually depend on the line being available, not on how much power flows, so Power Grid’s income is less exposed to that. But the case for more transmission still depends on solar projects getting built. Land access (right of way) and supply of high-voltage equipment are the two risks I would watch for the remaining parts.
What I am watching: The next Rajasthan commissioning notices, the cost and tariff of the parts done so far, and additions to the asset base in the quarterly results.
