Power Grid Corporation Wins 765KV GIS Pune West Project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (NSE: POWERGRID)

POWERGRID
has won the tariff-based competitive bid for the 765kV GIS Pune West intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra. The project carries an annual transmission fee of ₹199.55 crore. What happened: The win came through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. In September 2026, the company also won the Lakadia REZ Phase II project in Gujarat, with annual charges of ₹1,152.49 crore. Why it matters: Transmission fees are fixed annual charges, so once the project is built and running, the income is recurring and easy to forecast. GIS means gas-insulated substation. It needs far less land than a conventional one, which suits dense load centres like Pune where space is tight. My view: On size, this is a modest order. ₹199.55 crore a year is about 17% of the Lakadia annual charges. It will not change the earnings picture alone. The value is in the pattern, because repeated TBCB wins keep adding long-term, regulated-style income. I cannot judge returns on this one. The input does not give project cost, the quoted tariff or a commissioning date, and revenue only starts after commissioning. Risks: Delays in right-of-way or land allocation for the substation. Supply and price pressure on high-voltage GIS equipment. What I am watching next: Signing of the Transmission Service Agreement. Transfer of the project SPV to the company. Construction and commissioning milestones. Please note that the information shared is intended solely for informational purposes and does not make any investment recommendations.
