Closing Bell: Nifty ends near 24,400, Sensex gains 114 points; mid- and smallcaps outperform

Indian benchmark indices ended on a mixed note on August 13, with the Nifty extending its decline for a third straight session, while the Sensex managed a modest gain. At the close, the Sensex advanced 113.61 points to 78,079.96, while the Nifty slipped 40.10 points to 24,395.85. In sectoral trading, the Nifty Metal index fell 1%, while the Private Bank index declined 0.5%. On the other hand, Realty gained 1% and Consumer Durables advanced 0.45%.
