Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty finish little changed after choppy session; IT and consumer durables stocks outperform
Today Sensex, Nifty close almost unchanged amid volatile trade Indian equity benchmarks ended Thursday's session on a subdued note after witnessing sharp intraday swings, as gains in IT and consumer-oriented stocks were largely offset by selling pressure in banking and realty counters. At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex edged up 1.44 points to 77,186.87, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 5.75 points, or 0.02%, to settle at 24,072.75. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Consumer Durables emerged as the biggest gainer, advancing 1.4%, followed by Nifty Media (+1%), Nifty IT (+0.5%) and Nifty Auto (+0.4%). Nifty FMCG, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty Pharma also closed in positive territory. On the losing side, Nifty Realty was the worst-performing index, declining 1%. It was followed by Nifty PSU Bank (-0.5%), Nifty Metal (-0.35%), Nifty Private Bank (-0.28%), and Nifty Bank (-0.27%), reflecting continued weakness in financial and real estate stocks.
