Vodafone Idea rose more than 5% on April 6 after Kumar Mangalam Birla was appointed as the company’s new non-executive chairman. The stock gained 5.37% to ₹11.38 on both the BSE and NSE in early trading. Birla replaces Ravinder Takkar, who has stepped down from the role and will now serve as non-executive vice chairman, continuing to support the leadership transition. The company confirmed in a regulatory filing on April 5 that its board approved Birla’s appointment, effective May 5, 2026, along with Takkar’s new role. Separately, improved sentiment around the company follows recent relief on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. According to a report by Citi Research, the easing of the long-standing dues issue strengthens Vodafone Idea’s financial outlook, though some risks persist. The government recently reduced the company’s AGR liability by around 27%, bringing it down to ₹64,046 crore after reassessing statutory dues, as per a filing last week.
