Som Distilleries and Breweries Ltd jumped 20 percent on July 20 after the company's latest shareholding pattern revealed that veteran investor Prashant Jain acquired a 1.22 percent stake during the June quarter. The market is also speculating that ace investor Dolly Khanna may have exited her 1.49 percent holding, although the company has not confirmed the transaction. The sharp rally comes after a prolonged period of weakness for the small-cap stock, which had recently slipped to its 52-week low amid soft demand, operational disruptions and pressure on earnings. Som Distilleries ended the session 20 percent higher at Rs 78.18 per share. The company manufactures a diversified portfolio of beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Its flagship beer brands include Hunter, Woodpecker and Black Fort, while its spirits portfolio features brands such as White Fox Vodka, Milestone and Legend. The company is also expanding its manufacturing footprint with a proposed Rs 600-crore brewery and distillery project in Uttar Pradesh, one of its key growth markets. According to the June-quarter shareholding data, Prashant Jain purchased 25 lakh shares in the company, taking his stake to 1.22 percent and boosting investor sentiment around the stock.
