Tata Steel Ltd. Posts 10% Surge in Q2 Production

TATASTEEL
Tata Steel Limited has reported a strong performance for the second quarter (July–September) of FY27, achieving a 10% year-on-year growth in crude steel production from its Indian operations to reach 6.21 million metric tonnes. Total sales volumes in India rose by 7% year-on-year to 5.97 million metric tonnes, underpinned by sustained domestic consumption despite seasonal monsoon disruptions. The growth was spearheaded by the company's automotive and special products segment, which delivered its best-ever second-quarter sales volume of 1.1 million metric tonnes, alongside record quarterly performance in its branded retail offerings. The operational uptick in India comes as Tata Steel progresses on major strategic initiatives to consolidate its long-term growth and transition toward sustainable steelmaking. The company recently approved a major ₹33,873 crore expansion project to increase steelmaking capacity by 4.8 MTPA at its Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) facility. Internationally, Tata Steel has been optimizing its European operations—recommissioning the Direct Sheet Plant in the Netherlands and modernizing downstream processing capabilities in the UK—while continuing decarbonization dialogues with European governments to future-proof its global assets.
