India’s information technology sector may be navigating a challenging global demand environment and mounting concerns over artificial intelligence-led disruption, but several major IT companies continued to reward shareholders with healthy dividend payouts following their Q4FY26 earnings announcements. The sector has come under significant pressure in recent months, with the Nifty IT index falling sharply amid worries over slowing growth, elevated valuations and the growing role of AI in enterprise technology services. Concerns have also intensified over the expanding presence of OpenAI in enterprise AI deployment, which could gradually reduce dependence on traditional IT service providers and challenge the labour-intensive execution model that has historically driven revenues for Indian IT firms. Despite these headwinds, cash-rich technology companies continued to demonstrate strong commitment towards shareholder returns through dividends and buybacks. Industry leaders such as Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys maintained their track record of generous payouts, while niche software player Oracle Financial Services Software stood out with an exceptionally high per-share dividend declaration. At the same time, Wipro focused on capital return through buybacks instead of announcing fresh dividends during the quarter. Dividend-paying IT stocks continue to remain attractive for investors due to their strong cash flows, stable balance sheets and consistent profitability, especially during periods of heightened market volatility.
