Uno Minda has announced its entry into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment through its joint venture with Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, a move significantly expands the company's addressable market and strengthens its presence in a high-value automotive components category. The company said the expansion marks its entry into the complete passenger vehicle seating systems business, describing it as one of the highest-value product categories in the automotive supply chain. Uno Minda added that the move will deepen its footprint in a segment that plays a key role in enhancing the premium vehicle experience. Uno Minda had formed the joint venture with Tachi-S in September 2022 to manufacture and market seat recliners for passenger vehicles. The company also revealed that the JV has already secured its first major order from a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM), providing an anchor customer for the new business. To support the expansion, Uno Minda's board has approved the setting up of a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with a planned capital expenditure of Rs 320 crore. The plant is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of FY28 and will have a terminal annual production capacity of around 240,000 seating units.
