r shares jumped 5% on September 8 after the company announced its entry into Bhutan’s renewable energy sector with a major hydroelectric project. At 10:33 am, the stock was trading at ₹640.15 apiece on the NSE.
The company, along with Bhutan’s state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd. (DGPC), signed a Shareholders Agreement (SHA) on September 6 to develop the 570 MW Wangchhu hydroelectric project. An in-principle understanding for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was also initialed, the company said.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
The Wangchhu project, to be built on a BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) model, will require an investment of around ₹6,000 crore. It is designed as a peaking run-of-river hydroelectric project, aimed at generating clean power while supporting cross-border energy cooperation between India and Bhutan.
With the detailed project report already finalized, construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, with completion targeted within five years of groundbreaking.
